EPA 2009 - First Honorable Mention - Environmental Photojournalism Gallery

At the long abandoned whaling station of grytviken in south georgia (abandoned, that is, by whalers: there's quite a lot of activity there by the british antarctic survey, researchers, etc) the bones of whales and wrecks of whaling boats litter the place: veritable ghosts of giants. a sobering place. the pressure boilers and whale oil silos are ominously large.

thanks for looking; comments welcome.

This is superb photography Stewart. While shots of whales towed at the side of factory ships are graphic, this has a more lasting impact in my mind. Excellent top to bottom and side to side, from the framing to DOF, the lighting to the post processing.

Great image. Sad story. Whaling is such a nasty business.

Amazing story telling! Such depth into this image and our disturbing history. Well done.
