Fence Line

Nikon D3
1/250s @ f/20
ISO 250
Nikkor 80-400 f/4 lens @ 400mm

I took this photo last March in Stanley, Idaho. I had been going back to this spot all winter to catch the design of light on this fence line and hill. The extreme contrast typically makes the shadows almost black (blue-black, but the windswept textures on the snow surface always catches my attention. I have a variety of compostions, but decided to work this one. Comments and ctiricsms are welcomed!

This is very nice! I really like the crooked fence line in the snow, the colors of the background. Great job!

Becky, the fence line and the shadow having similar lines is really interesting. The first little roll in the field adds nice dimension and tone. The diagonal line of the hill finishes the image off well. Good shot.

A nicely designed shot, Becky. I like your composition a lot, and the old crooked fence is great in contrast to the snow. The blown mg and dark bg seems a bit too much for me though. I'd like to see more detail in these areas, but that's just my taste. I like the shot a lot.

Sweet comp and a really effective shot overall. My one desire would be to see some detail in the blown highlights, but it's certainly not spoiling the shot for me.

Becky, I spent a lot of time around Stanley as a young boy, over 50 years ago. Your beautiful photographs have brought back many fond memories, and have made me long to return.

Becky, this capture is fantastic. The play of light in the background really adds to this. The curves and little differences in the fence are top notch! Nice eye to find this scene! :toast: :toast:

Nicely done Becky, the fenceline anchors the image so well, and the spot of light on the hills adds a nice counterpoint. Well composed.

Wonderful. The flow of the fence line and the different shadings makes this a compelling capture. A real winner! :jump:

Absolutely brilliant in my opinion. Perfect balance of light/dark and converging lines. Reminiscent of some of Michael Kenna's work, only in color. I really like it.

Love the tottering line of fence in the snow, finding its way across the landscape. I also really like the bleak, blue-black-white colour palette. Awesome shot.
