Billy Goat

I mostly shoot birds and landscapes, but when I come across some bigger wildlife I'll of course take advantage. This is my first post in this section of NPN, and after browsing through some of the posts here I've got to say there's a lot of talent! I don't know how you guys find those elusive mountain lions etc., I'd love to see one one day! Here's one of my favorites from last year, a Billy Goat in the Olympic National Park backcountry.

Canon 5D, 70-200mm, handheld

Great shot! I love the pose and that eye really stands out. Like the dark background as well.

This is a great shot! The contrasting plants in the front along with the lupines are a wonderful contrast to the white billy goat. The background is very slightly distracting, but I think a little burning to darken it would do wonders! This is fantastic either way! Nice work! :toast:

Hi Floris,

Welcome to the Fauna Gallery! This first post is an absolute classic - very well done. I like the foreground (including its sharpness), the goat is great (and VERY white!), and it's nicely isolated from the background. Composition works too. A textbook shot!

Cheers...looking forward to seeing more from you in the future...

Is this from a fairy tale? I love that you have so much detail in the whites. The little pop of purple from the flowers and the orange of the eye puts this one over the top for me.

Great FG with this guy. A lot of really nice detail, even in the web version. This looks pretty tight for a 200mm on a 5D. Did you crop it down quite a bit or were you just very close?

Oh, man! Floris, what a shot! Not only is the goat so fine but the environmental elements-the lupine especially- are just terrific additions. An unexpected delight. Much good "hunting" to you for this year.

really great photo Floris, I love the Mountain Goats. my family and I went up into the San Juan Mountains in Colorado and found one male and two females with three kids. wish mine had been as white as yours he was kind of dirty yours is pure white. they are truly incredable creatures.
