Morning in The Big Woods

Here is another lake in The Big Woods that I shot this past Sunday morning. I would like to have had a little more fog, but was still pleased to have an opportunity to experience such a beautiful fall morning.

Thanks again for all the great comments on my last post!

Lovely shot -- the reflection and fog add mystery. The reflection is quieter than the reflected scene -- a good thing. The color reminds me of tea and far away places -- the image has an oriental feeling that I like. this is one I will come back to.....

This may be my favorite fall shot of this season. Great color, light, and leading line direction. This is amazing just as it is. I thought a tighter crop (hacking off a bit of the right and bottom) would create a even more initimate scene, but i'm not sure. Bill you should be real proud of this shot, it's a stunner !

Wow, I certainly didn't expect this kind of response! Thanks to everyone for having a look, and especially to those that took a moment to leave a comment. Coming from such a talented group of photographers as those that post here, it certainly warms my heart.

I loved the quality of light in both this image and the previous one, and think they represent some of my best work over the past three years. These wetlands (I can't bring myself to call them swamps anymore) are really a joy to experience and photograph. My hope is that I have communicated the beauty of that experience here. Thanks again!

Fantastic image making of a neat ecosystem. I would consider lightening the extreme top left corner as the dark spot draw some attention away.

Good photography!

Superb! Here's an exercize for you--look at crops of just the left half, and then just the right half. Notice that one of the crops (it's so obvious no need to even say!) is a significantly stronger comp. It obviously wont stop this from getting tons of raving reviews, but IMHO that fine point is what makes the difference between a "great shot" and one that deserves to be on the cover.

Thanks again to all that have posted a comment or suggestion!

Stan - the right side of the image is no doubt the stronger half and I appreciate your thoughts on cropping. However, I think what drew me into this scene, besides the magnificent light, was the grouping of these trees. As I framed the composition, I was concerned about not chopping off any trunks or major branches on the sides. It would be difficult to crop this in half without losing parts of one of the trunks, since all but the two on the far left intersect, and might possibly upset the overall balance. I do think cropping the left quarter (the two trees on the far left) might be an improvement, and will give it a try. I'm afraid that it might not leave the remaining tree enough breathing room though...
