Ode to Autumn
by Amy Hopp
In keeping with my last fall tree image, this is a more intimate composition of the ghostly white Sycamores that are scattered throughout our fall landscape. This tree was on a hillside (I was at a distance shooting down), and the gold throughout are leaves that had already fallen...

Every once in a while a photo comes along on this forum that exceeds all expectations and leaves photography on the wayside and most certainly crosses over into the realm of art - this is one of them. Enough said.

Are you throwing a little Orton effect into these images? They have a soft glowy look that is beautiful and I am wondering how you achieve it.
Great work!!
I did use a few subtle photographic filters in Photoshop on this one due to the busy background and extreme detail. I say photographic, because these filters mimic actual photography techniques that can be achieved with on camera filters. The two filters I used were from Tiffen Dfx (Pro-Mist) and Power Retouche (Soft Filter). The Soft Filter was used to slightly soften the background sharpness and contrast (I use it a lot in these cases). My Canon 70-200mm is extremely sharp and really shows it with trees/tree branches. The Pro-Mist filter was used to bring about a subtle diffusing. I wanted to maintain sharpness in the tree itself, so I erased the effects from the tree branches. I then did a slight vignette to bring attention to the tree.
I was almost afraid to submit this in ESS because I wasn't sure if the "artsy" aspect would fly. LOL I really didn't do anything too extreme, however, so I figured if it needed moved, no problem!
Thanks again on the great feedback...
Although it's already been mentioned, I have to say that this is one of those images that makes the case that photography IS ART! I absolutely love this image.
Thank you for posting the information and technique about this. While this certainly could have gone in Photo Art, it's not disqualified from being in here... :-) I think it's important to note that you had to start with a compelling image in order for this to be such a success. And your processing, well, just put this over the top.
Congrats on posting an outstanding image.

I haven't had a photo of mine printed and framed yet, but I think this one might change that!
Very cool, like a painting.
