Some more wildflowers, anyone?

I found this really sweet field of wildflowers up at Mount Rainier a few weeks back and even though I didn't see the mountain the whole trip, I tried to capture a few misty images of it. It was the field that I have been dreaming of for a few years now. Even though the mountain didn't show, It sure was a peaceful morning. Comments are very welcome, however critical. Thanks for looking. Chip

Awesome colors here Chip. The distant haze is a great touch. Excellent sharpness/focus throughout. Did you set the focus at hyperfocal point ? This is definitely a keeper. Beautiful Comp.

Thanks Matt. I usually set the focus at about 1 meter when shooting at f14 or f16 when I want to get max. dof.
This usually lands about 1/3 or the way into the comp.

Wonderfully colorful and sharp!
An outstanding mix of flowers, and the fog/mist really complements the foreground so very well.

Even the distortion is a nice touch...was it intentional via PP, or inherent with the lens/camera combo?

I love these type of images. This one is fabulous. The wide angle treatment, exaggerating the colors in the dominant foreground flowers, is great. The flowers jump off the screen. The mood created by the raindrop/dew and fog is also great. :toast:

Thanks John! The distortion is a combo of the lens/camera, and the fact that the top of the land is curved. It was a bit of a hilltop in other words. Some of the trees were naturally leaning as well I think. I didn't add any in PP.

Chip,
This is fantastic. The trees dark and silhouetted in the mist are a spectacular contrast to the bold colors of the wildflowers and the curve of the hill gives this a fantastic three dimensional quality.

What a great bouquet. The variety of colors and soft light make this very pleasing to look at.

Chip, incredible wildflower field. I love how you put most of the emphasis on the field. Excellent work.

That is a seriously profuse bouquet of wildflowers, Chip! I like the image alot. Not sure if you could fix the distortion w/o sacrificing image quality but if so, I think it would enhance the image. Great work!

What everyone else said...plus, your white balance here is excellent. Sometimes in these conditions I find it difficult to control color casts that can muddy the natural colors.

If it were not for some sunflowers, I would have struck out with flowers this season. I would really like to have something like this in my files. The variety of flowers here is amazing, and the mist is a good thing too. I found my spot for alpine wildflowers a few weeks too late this year. I'll be primed and ready next spring though.

Paradise. Wisecracker.
I was looking more for off the Skyline Trail, Lakes Trail, above Edith Creek, above the Paradise River, etc. Gonna blitz up there this weekend and I'm hoping they're still going strong (as slow to get going as they were).

Thanks very much for the nice comments everyone!!

Bryan-I'm sworn to secrecy or else I will loose my left pinky... It's up off of the skyline trail (I think-wasn't paying much attention to the names). I just kind of walked straight up the hill and then caught what looked like a small trail heading off to the left and hiked it for a ways-maybe a summit route or something. They will surely be gone by now though. It's been about three weeks since I took this. Ok, now where is you secret location on Baker?

Chip,

A simple bouquet of beauty. I love how this fades from sharp, colorful detail in to the foggy mist. Awesome.

Superb. At landscapes like this, the difficulty among expanses of color is carefully choosing exactly where to put one's lens. Fine choice of near foreground, well done. Seems to be a bit of vertical bending at left that you could tweak a bit with skew. This would be an ideal subject for a view camer's tilt. Mount Raineer at the summer wildflower peak has been calling me for a trip north for two decades.
