As of July 1, 2006 there are new fees for all copyright matters.
What used to be the $30 fee for a regular CR registration is now $45.
Almost every fee on the list, but for about a dozen of them, have gone up from $5 to $400. The higher fees for the hourly rate services.

These fees are already in effect and if you do not send in the new amount with your work, you will get your application returned.

Thanks for the heads-up, Paul

I found this out last week minutes before sealing up my most recent copyright deposit package. "Hmmm. . ." I thought, "maybe I should just double-check those fees, even though they haven't changed them in years. . . ." Yikes! Thankfully they only went up $15.

Getting your images register is well worth the price. Because I have my images registered, I made a quick $975 on a single image at the beginning of the year because it was used without my permission. I just gave her my registration number that that image was associated with, the Copyright Website link so it could be looked up, told her to go talk to a IP lawyer about what it ment to infringe on a registered image, my price and a deadline. She contacted me well before the deadline was up and made arrangements to pay me. I wasn't so lucky the first time I was infringed on as I didn't have my images registered. The woman (it's funny but the 3 times I've been infringed on for profit have been by women), who was well off, just blew me off and told me to take her to court. I found that I couldn't afford to take her to court, even though it was a clear cut case. Had I had the image she used commercially registered, I am pretty sure I would have had no problem collecting the fee I gave her. But I consider the first time a wake up call, which is why my images are now registered and it's paid off on the 2nd two times I've caught them being used without my permission.

Even with the price going up to $45, it's well worth getting it done.

FYI - - -You do NOT have to have an image "registered" in order to sue.
As long as you can prove it is your image, you can sue anyone, anytime, for any image. (or work of art)

The only thing having them registerted does is;
"if you do sue, then the person you are suing also has to pay for your lawyers fees as well as all of their other costs of loosing the case. If the image is not registered, then YOU pay your own lawyers fees."

Since it only costs $45 now, and since you can register thousands of images ALL at the same time,
if you do it right,
then a person has to be a FOOL not to register all of their images as they get them scanned.

Very good to know. I was still operating off the old form and fee structure.
