Taken Friday 7/28/06. There were distant storms in 2 directions of me and of course when I was facing one way the light show would be bursting in the other direction and would calm down as soon as I would face it. This exposure is 60 sec @ F8. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I like this alot. You have really captured the power of the storm with the lightning bolts and the illuminated clouds as well. The silhouetted trees in the foreground give the whole scene some earthly context.
Very nice capture Leann, lightning is not easy at all to capture, and almost impossible (as I've found out) when there is light pollution around - you've done a great job!.

Thanks everyone. It is a good learning experience gauging how long to expose, which flashes will show, did I leave the car doors unlocked for a quick escape. I used the bulb setting and a shutter remote and being it was dark and I forgot my watch I did alot of counting "one mississippi..two mississippi..Three mississippi..four". Apparently it works best to expose most of the shutter time before the strikes and then close shortly after.

Very nice shot, Leann. I love lightning images. The illuminated clouds are what give this one extra appeal for me. The square format works well, too. Lightning is fun to try and capture -just make sure to be safe.

You're such a risk-taker Leann. Cool. I don't have any lightning shots.

Thanks guys,
I was literally 10 steps from my vehicle and the storms really were across town from me but I was thinking about how cool I bet it was to be closer to the mountains they were near....
Leann, Ditto all of the compliments above. I love this shot and its mood. I, also, haven't ever tried lightning so if this is your first one, congrats! It's a winner.
