When I need to make a free-hand selection in Photoshop, I have a lot of trouble with accuracy using my optical trackball. It doesn't move smoothly and is just plain awkward for tracing around irregular objects. I know that there must be better devices out there. What do you folks use?

This isn't what you were asking about, but have you tried the magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop? That reduced my Photoshop-induced headaches a little bit.
