I know this has been asked oh only a zillion times but I hope I am asking from a different angle here. Anyone have favorite photo papers for dye based inkjet photo printers? I am using the HP 8750-wide format(13x19)and looking for ideas for good media to print on.

Hello Leanne,

I encountered the same problem as you do. Everybody seems to print with Epson pigmented inks. It's hard to find information about the best papers to print with dye based inks.

For glossy prints with my Canon i9950 (also dye based inks) I use Olmec 300gsm Super Heavyweight Gloss paper: http://www.ici-imagedata.com/files/2pi984.pdf . For printer settings see: http://www.ici-imagedata.com/files/prnguid1203.pdf . In my opinion this is the best glossy paper you can get for dye based inks.

For fine art matt prints I use Moab entrada bright 300gsm: http://www.moabpaper.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=39
Supposed to be meant for pigment based inks but I get very good results with my Canon dye based inks, also in terms of longevity. After 1.5 years for a print on the wall (framed behind glass!) there is no visible degradation.

The Ilford Classic Gloss and Ilford Classic Pearl papers(specially made for dye based inks) are also very good in combination with my Canon inks.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Ronno,
Thank you for replying. I just so happened to order the Moab sample pack and then read that is suggested for pigment inks and so I wondered if it would be worth it or not.I will try it out and see and maybe the others you mentioned also.I appreciate your help.

Leann: you don't state your preferences, but as a 'photographic' paper, HP Premium Plus Photo Satin is superb. IMO, the only equally comparable or better paper/look is a Lightjet on Fuji Crystal Archive.

Michael,
Thank you very much for the info. I have been using Kodak Ultima in satin finish for 8x10 and Staples matte paper for 13x19" prints.
