Ok here are my choices

70-210 F4-5.6D (USED) $465.31

70-210 F4-5.6 (USED) $194.01

75-300 F4-5.6D ED (USED) $415.14

75-300 F4-5.6 (NEW- I think) $388.66

70-300 F4-5.6D ED (NEW) $412.44

All prices are CDN Funds. I will be using for Landscape on a tripod and Portrait handheld/Tripod.

Which do you think is the better bang 4 the Buck?

I would pick a "D" lens over a non-D lens. As for lens quality, look each of them up on the popular photography web site and see if there are any reviews on either lens. You might also check Nikon's web site. They show performance charts on some of their lenses.

I'm only guessing, but I suspect that the 70-210 F4-5.6D (USED) $465.31 and the 70-300 F4-5.6D ED (NEW) $412.44 are the best quality of the above choices.

David, if want the extra reach, I'd go with the 70-300 AFD-ED lens. I used to have this lens and used it for long hikes and backpacking. It is a very good lens. There are a lot of them on the used market, and I bet you could pick one up for at least $100 less than the price you listed above.

David,
I would also look at the 80 to 400 vr, and the sigma 50 to 500, a little higer in price but definately worth a look, I have the 80 to 400, and it is always on the d2x

Thanks for all your advice.......

David, unfortunity I have to keep the bill under the $500 mark so I think Ive settled on the 75-300, it got good grades on Photodo.com and is in my price range.

Thank all again

What is the "D" supposed to indicate?

Pete D. - that "D" indicates my last name.

D -- (1992) Adds distance information to the data transmitted to the camera via chip. Distinguished by the D or G after the lens designation.
