I have calibrated my Sony flat screen as best I can with the EZcolor calibrator, calibrated my HP Scanner as best I can with the EZcolor swatches, and have used EZcolor Suite to profile my printer as best I can, and I still don't seem to get a decent print from the Epson 2200. And I don't mean just a little bit. It is off by a lot. The purples and lavenders and some blues just completely block up. The lighting and contrast is dark and heavy. I mean, I get better prints disengaging the color control from PSE and adjusting the sliders in the print driver with the trial-and-error method. Not that that's very efficient.

After investing more money than I had at the time in the calibration suite, and more time than I would have liked overall, I was very dissapointed when the exact same issues came up. I have to wonder if the printer is defective, or the fact that I am using an 8-bit-color application is somehow responsible. But I have never, **NEVER**, gotten an decent print from a canned Epson profile, a canned profile from Red River when I used their paper, nor from the custom profile made with the EZcolor Suite.

Any ideas?

I've always gotten great prints from the Epson profiles. What color setting do you have Elements set to? Full color management, no color management, or the other one (can't remember off the top of my head) and what color space are you capturing your images with?
If you're capturing in Adobe 1998 RGB, then make sure Elements is set to full color management.
Make sure your monitor calibration is up to date and print to the proper Epson profile. Be sure to turn color management off in the Epson 2200 driver too.

I haven't used the 2200, but have the R2400. Like you, I had problems with color management using the Epson and Moab free profiles. I talked to the folks at Chromix, and ended up buying one of their custom profiles and it solved my problems immediately. I hate to be the one suggesting that you spend another $100, but it sure solved my issues. BTW, ths Chromix profiles are guaranteed - they will work with you until it's right or give your $ back.

For $40, you may want to give Cathy's Profiles a try. I've been happy with the results.
