Weekly Image - Summer Wildflowers
Ok, I'll join in....

Here's an image from a field of wildflowers outside of Cicero, Indiana just north of Indianapolis. I assume the yellow ones are black eyed susans but I'm not sure about the pinkish ones. Any ideas?

I love photographing wildflowers and would be interested in any location tips in the Indiana, Illinois, Southern Michigan, Western Ohio areas.

Best regards,
Mike

Mike, sorry I can't help with locations. I'm from southeast Michigan and am having a hard time finding nice spots for wildflowers myself.

I really like this shot. Its the abundance of yellow that does it for me. Off hand, I'm not sure what the other flowers are called but I have seen them around here as well. My first guess would be a member of the Aster family.

Sorry I wasn't of more help.

MIke,

Great DOF What kind of equiptment are you using? Really nice!

No idea on the purple ones. I asked my wife who is into flowers and she didn't know either.

Jack, this was shot with a 1dsmkII and a 45 Tilt/Shift Lens. Thanks for the kind words.

Lovely image, Mike! The purple flowers are Bee Balm (Monarda sp.).

Wow, that is a lot of black eyed susans. We get them around the Detroit area, but not that dense.

The flowers are known as wild bergamont too. They susually attract a lot of bees.

Mike,

Somehow I thought you had a TS lens on this image! I have a Nikon 85 TS and Love it for a few reasons.... 1) The lens is tack sharp & 2) It slows me down enough to make me think about what I am doing!
These lenses are really underrated!

I was going to suggest Bee Balm, but see Danny beat me to it. Wish I could find a nice field of wildflowers in western MI, but so far, no luck.

Great shot, Mike!

Jack, the tilt / shift lenses are great for flower photography. I'd rather not have to carry the extra weight but the results are so much better.

Others, thanks for the help with the id and for the kind words.
