I am relatively new to the forum and figured I would introduce myself. I am a 28 year old guy from St. Louis and am a self-described fly fishing addict, that has been grabbed by photography. I found myself emersed in some of the most beautiful places the ozarks / midwest has to offer in search of trout. Now I split my time evenly between fishing, and chasing nature through my camera lens.
I shoot with the following camera gear:
o Nikon D70 Camera Body
o Nikkor DX AF-S 18-70mm f3.5 – 5.6 G ED
o Nikkor AF 70-300mm f4.5 – 5.6 G
o Sigma EX 50mm f2.8 Macro D
o Sigma APO 400mm f5.6
o Sigma 35-70mm f2.8 – 4
o Tokina AT-X 80-400mm f4.5 5.6
o Tokina RMC 2x Teleconverter
o Nikon SB-600 Flash
o Nikon SB-25 Flash
I have only been shooting more than casually for just over 1 year, and it is a very rewarding experience.
I tried to include an image that I shot while in the smokies this June, but something happened and it didn't work. I do have some whitetail / turkey shots on my site http://www.photographychronicles.com but just couldn't figure out how to get the photo to show up in this post.
At any rate, the images I have seen from everyone on this forum have been very cool and give me something to aspire to. If anyone is from the Missouri / Illinois area (or is traveling to the area) and wants to get together to shoot please drop me an email (matt@ozarkchronicles.com). I look forward to participating in the future, and maybe meeting some of you.
Welcome to NPN. I don't think we have to many folks from MO so again welcome.
Check out the POSTING GUYDELINES on the Forum page. That will give you the details.
I used to fish too many years ago but gave it up totally for photography many years ago. I lived in No. New Jersey when growing up & fished the Beaverkill , Esopus and Willowemac (sp) streams i the Catskill Mts a lot. Its been a really long time. I still have my old Fenwicks somewhere though. I bet there's a lot better stuff around now.... just like photography.
Welcome again... we wish you good fishing & shooting!
Welcome to NPN, Matt. We do tend to get slow around here so feel free to livin us up whenever you get the urge. I'm pressed for time tonight so I will check out your images tomorrow, if time allows.
The barn photos in the galleries were shot at Silver Dollar City in Branson. Not exactly natural setting -- but very realistic looking from the era.
The image of the whitetail titled "Natures Camoflauge" is a very nice capture. My closest capture to something like that has been an image captured at Lone Elk County Park in St. Louis (Image of Whitetail).
Welcome Matt. I also do my fair share of fly fishing but my journey was the opposite of yours. I decided to start fly fishing when I found myself photographing in the Smokies regularly with some free time in the middle of the day. Both hobbies are great escapes that get us outdoors in beautiful places. A few of the fall fly fishing images have me looking forward to an October trip to the Smokies/Blue Ridge Pkwy.

St. Louis is about 4 hours west of me, perhaps you could share some insider secrets with us in the future.
