Greetings
I went to Sugar Hill on Thursday under less than ideal conditions, very bright and extremely windy! Perfect for flower photography. I'll post some photos here and in the macro forum if anyone's interested. I thought the bloom was far less impressive and prolific than years past. I have a feeling the bloom will be less intense and spread out over more time than perhaps we are accustom. It seems like there are still a lot of smaller plants that have yet to bloom, maybe due to very wet soil conditions. Michelle wasn't kidding about the ticks. I found 5 in all crawling and one had already started to imbed in my calf. All ticks found were wood ticks fortunately.
I was playing around with some slow shutter speeds to blur the flowers, let me know if you think it works. I'm not totally sold on it, but it definitely conveys the prevailing conditions at the time. It was just nice to get out and spend some time with my Dad who is just finishing his last round of chemotherapy and is used to being a lot more active this time of year.
THis effect is neat, I really like it. A strong central feature in the church, and a great feeling of a late spring day, with the puffy clouds and the wind rushing through the field. Just enough motion to make this work.
There may be a bit too much sky for my liking, and I'd consider a crop to the classic 4x5. I've been playing with this alot on compositions that I'm not sure about with great results.
