I went looking for Yellow Lady Slippers today with Michelle Parent. We went to Eshqua Bog in Hartland, Vermont and were rewarded with 8 to 10 plants in bloom. The Bog is protected and you must stay on a small boardwalk, which makes getting a decent composition difficult, especially since these plants are small, and there is a lot of other growth around them. It was an overcast day with a fine mist falling.
These guys are very tiny compared to the pink one that have appeared here before. I might have to try and find this bog sometime this week!! These flowers are hard to find. . .
I looked on the web and since the Bog is run by the nature conservancy it was listed. I have to check David Middleton's Photography Guide book on Vermont. He told me one day that he had a march neao Woodstock that had yellow lady slippers. The Nature Conservancy web site has a picture of a showy lady slipper ( Pink on the bottom with white leaves on the top) which implies that there are some of those there. Didn't see one of those did you?
Jim,
I forgot about Dave's book, but yes, it describes how to get to Eshqua Bog. And yes, there are a lot of Showy Lady Slippers there. However, they bloom a couple weeks later than the Yellow ones. There are only about 8 to 10 yellow ones in bloom. The showy lady slippers are usually in bloom around June 20th. Here is a link to some I took at Eshqua Bog a couple of years ago.
My father went there yesterday and said all but three of the yellow lady slippers had already gone by. The petals had turned all brown and the yellow slippers were covered with brown spots. He said there were three good ones left, but they were the furthest from the boardwalk. Hard to believe they could change so fast!
OK. . . I guess I'll wait for the showy LS around June 20th. I'm going to try to find a somewhat dry spot this weekend and head over to Sugarhill NH to see the Lupines. They will probably peak the middle of next week but I'm trying to get my brother up there.

This looks great! I love the water drops. It sure was a nice visit to the bog in spite of the weather.
Love this Shot!!

E-mail me if you want directions. I don't think this Bog is listed on any maps.
