I have spent a lot of Summers in Colorado and seen a lot of hummingbirds in the mountains, but this is the first year I have seen the Calliope humming bird here ( at our cabin at 8700 ft) I see this bird listed as an uncommon migrant in Colorado, but one has taken up residence at our cabin since mid July. Anyone care to comment on their experiences with this species in Colorado?
BTW, this year the hummingbirds are much more numerous at our cabin than pervious years, I suspect due to the drought which resulted in many fewer wildflowers than usual. We have gotten 4-8 hummers in previous years, this year we have at least 20 fighting over our feeders.
( This isn't the greatest shot of a Calliope but it does confirm the species well enough)
