At $48k, I just ordered 3 of them. You have to have spares, just in case. Not too many people have the kind of dough it takes to own one of those unless you are a pro where the work is paying the way.
If someone buys one of the beasts, I doubt they would balk at the cost of the computer that needs to be tethered for the 400MPx feature. The computer would have to be a custom built powerful bugger, though.
Still, it is interesting from a technology point of view.

Harley & Preston, totally agree about this beast. I suspect you'd need an IBM mainframe to open the file up and when it was open I can almost hear Hoover Dam start to bog down a bit.....
My scanner will scan to 3200 ppi without interpolating. Using interpolation it can go to 6400. With that said I scan my 4x5 stuff at only 2000 ppi and they are HUGH files to deal with once layers are applied.....
I cannot imagine dealing with anything larger......
Actually, Paul, a desktop machine with a 6 core i7 3.6 Ghz CPU, a 4 GB video card, 64 GB RAM, and a 500 GB fast SSD would handle those files with ease.
So, go buy one of those Hassies and then give Puget Systems a call. They will build one for you for about $3K.

Preston, I totally agree on the Puget machine handling things, but the need to cash in my own life insurance policy at this time to acquire the entire upgrade is not doable at this time........
