I have a coolscan 4000 and have ordered a firewire card so I can use it. I understand Nikon no longer supports this equipment and will provide no drivers or software. Is anyone aware of available software that will work?

I've been using my LS 4000 for years with a software product called VueScan which supports Windows 64-bit. It works exceptionally well with Windows 10. The latest version is 9.5.91 Professional Edition. It is available from Hamrick software.

Upgrades are free.
It allows the use of all features of the Nikon LS 4000 cool scan.
VueScan also works with my old Epson 2400 scanner without issue on the Windows 10 platform.
It's well worth the price.
There is also a way to use the Nikon software with Windows 10 and it involves some file editing. Although I can't find it now, there are some threads available on the Internet which describe how to do this. I was able to use my Coolscan LS 4000 with the Nikon software and Windows 10 as recently as a year ago. I can't remember if there were any noticeable advantages over the VueScan software. The real issue for me was optimizing the quality of my scans of old Kodachrome, Ektachrome, and Agfachrome which just can't compete with current digital technology.
David's advice to use VueScan (the Pro version) is excellent. I have been using it for years ever since Silverfast and Microtek quit updating software for my Microtek 1800f. VueScan is easy to use, and works perfectly with Windows 10 64 bit. Highly recommended.

Another vote for VueScan. I use it with my Coolscan 4000 and my Epson multifunction printer/scanner. VueScan is not as easy to use as the old Nikon Scan, but it does have more options for fine-tuning your scans.
I use the Mac version of the software, and found an adapter online that converts the Firewire cable to Thunderbolt so I can use the scanner with my MacBookPro.

I too vote for VueScan. There are quite a few options for optimizing your scans and regular software updates so it works well will newer systems.
