Midtone Contrast Adjustments

I received some excellent critiques on my Grand Tetons images I recently posted in the landscape gallery. A few mentioned a process called mid tone contrast adjustment. I found a YouTube on the topic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ll3WlG9tEQ

It covers how to do it well enough. I had to add another curves adjustment to really make it better. Anyone have another tutorial that covers mid tone contrast adjustment they like ?  Do you always boost the shadows after doing this ? Is this the same as a luminosity mask ?

How often do you folks use this in your landscape processing ?

Thanks

Andrew

Andrew, if you've not reviewed Tony Kuyper's complete Photoshop Actions tutorials and tools I highly recommend you take a look. I cannot think of any image I've posted in the last 8-10 years that I did not use at least one of his actions to complete the image. I would think many here at NPN would admit to that same process.

Andrew:  Like Paul, I have been using Tony's Luminosity Masks actions for a long time, and I highly recommend them, too.

Go Here and take a look at "Basic panel". It is free. Once you get the hang of using Tony's actions, you can upgrade to the Version 5 Panel ($35).

Tony's tutorials and Sean Bagshaw's videos are excellent. Sean's videos are not free, however, but the PDF tutorials are.
