This is the Meade instruments glass white light solar filter model number SF 500. If you have a Sigma 150-600 contemporary telephoto lens and are looking for a solar filter to protect the lens and sensor of your camera for photographing the upcoming solar eclipse on August 21, 2017, this is a good alternative to more expensive solar glass. This filter is aluminized and of optical quality. It has an aluminum frame with three thumbscrews which can be tightened down on the sunshade of your telephoto lens. It is easily applied and removed. I purchased this from B and H for $82, which currently includes a free 5 pack of disposable solar glasses. I believe the only available screw-on filters for this Sigma telephoto which require a 95 mm thread cost $199. If you are going to order the Meade instruments filter, please note there are multiple sizes and for the Sigma contemporary lens, you will need the 127 mm diameter filter. I have lens coat on my Sigma lens and it fits fine over the lens coat. See the enclosed photograph of the sun that I took today. This was at iso-200, F8, 1000th, on a tripod. My disclaimer is I am not a professional solar photographer. Oh and just a reminder: According to the box, use of this filter does require adult supervision.
Another option is to buy Baader Solar Film. A lot less expensive.
A 7.9" x 11.4" piece is $37. I made 2 filters with that piece and still have enough left to easily make a pair of viewing glasses. I made one for my 500 f/4 and my 100-400.
Requires you to make a holder (I made mine from foam core). It comes with their instructions on how to make a holder. I modified their instructions and did my own thing.
