HELP PLEASE.

My wife & I are considering a trip to Yellowstone National Park in late September of this year. Primary reason is to see and photograph wildlife, followed by landscape.

I have next to no knowledge about the park and am confused (happens easily & often) with all the information on the internet. Perhaps someone can give me some suggestions of where to visit and where to stay. We will be flying in and renting a vehicle.

Thank you in advance for any and all assistance.

Aim for late Sept for the best wildlife opportunities.  I'm assuming you'll be flying into Bozeman,MT.  If so staying in either Gardiner, Cooke City, or West Yellowstone are options.   Cooke City gives easiest access to the Lamar Valley (north end of the park).  Gardiner gives easiest access to Mammoth, Tower, and Canyon   West Yellowstone gives easiest access to Old Faithful and Canyon.   The Lamar Valley is good for wildlife, bison, occasionally bear and wolves and badgers.   Hayden Valley (south of Canyon and north of Fishing Bridge) can be good for bison, bear, coyote).   Canyon is great for waterfall and canyon scenery and possibly Great Gray Owl.  Nearby to the north is Dunraven Pass which is good for bear as is the Tower Falls area further north.   Old Faithful area is good for geothermal scenery.  Elk are no longer a high visibility species in the park, if you want to photograph elk the best park is Rocky Mountain NP in Colorado.   Hope that helps.  I always camp so am not a good source for motels, restaurants.
