NIK software issues after CC upgrade

After recent 2017 CC upgrades some of the components of NIK are no longer working. So far 'Define 2' is hanging when invoked but a search of the internet indicates that many other modules are hanging for other users. I'm running Photoshop CC on a MacbookPro.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Has anyone found a workaround?

Igor,

It's frustrating, Nik sold out to Google, now Google is shelving it. It'll always be available but they are not upgrading anymore, nor plan to. However, it works on my 2017 CC installation, I downloaded the latest installer and simply re-ran it. Have you tried that? https://www.google.com/nikcollection/?

Hope it works for you.

It is really too bad that Google is not supporting Nik. I used the plugins on an earlier version of PSCC and found them buggy. When I installed CC 2017 I decided to leave the NIK plugins behind. I can do everything I need in Photo Shop, and saved almost 500 MB of disk space, too.

Perhaps the problems are OSX specific. What operating system are you on Paul?

There is indeed a problem with PS CC 2017.1 and the Nik filters (specifically Dfine2) on the Mac platform.  Note that it works fine on PS CC 2017, just not the latest update to 2017.1.  Looks like Google's lack of commitment to the products is catching up.

Here are two threads about the issue:

From Google:

From Adobe:

The issue is with the plugin version in PS.  Standalone it works fine, or from LightRoom.

There is an entry from an Adobe Product manager that said they would at least look into the problem and see if there is a fix Adobe can provide, but in the end this is Google's problem and unless they sell the product off, it will eventually die.  Too bad as I think it is excellent software.

Thank you Keith. I didn't know that I had installed NIK as standalone apps. I verified that 'Define2' does still work in this mode.

Do you know if they're having the same problems in the Windows platform?  I still use PS CS6 so I'm not currently having any issues but one day I may have to upgrade to CC.  I love Define2, it's the best noise reduction programs I've used.

I don't have a windows box, but my understanding is this issue is only on the Mac.

In case you haven't seen it the 2017.1.1 update resolves the issue on the Mac platform with Nik Dfine2.
