Just a heads up that the NP Lifetime Senior Pass will be going up considerably in the near future. No doubt the best buy out there even at the increased price. Presently for us older folks it is and was a mere $10 at the young age of 62. And of course that is a pay once lifetime access pass to any of our USA national parks.
The new price will be adjusted upward to $80. As I recall that was or is the price for an annual all parks access pass for anyone under 62. Obviously not much one can do if your not hitting the age of 62 prior to the increase, but again, no matter what it is still a great deal for the lifetime pass to ALL parks.
Wow, 800% price increase! Glad I got mine a long time ago!
@ Bill, I agree, but with the caveat after reaching that age plateau it's going by at the speed of light these days now...UGH !......
Still a great deal. I still get to invest a couple thousand more dollars in annual park passes before I qualify.
@ Max, no need to be caught up in the wishing for old age, it happens soon enough. I use to joke with a buddy of mine how we all seem to "wish" our lives away. Basically, starting out at a young age wanting maybe to be old enough to start school, and then on to little league, the scouts, legally driving age, smoking age, drinking age, graduation from HS, then College; well you get the idea.....
I guess I've reached the very ripe old age of not "wishing" away anymore future time.......
Paul, how old were you when you graduated from High School?
@ Ed, I was one of them younger types at 17 years old.......I then went straight into the military. Back then they use to give us extra duty for having buffalo dung stuck to our arrows......
I got my 'Geezer Pass' a long time ago during a visit to Yosemite, and it has saved me a pile of money. Not only is it good for park entrance, you also get a 50% discount on camping fees at national parks and monuments, USFS campgrounds, and BLM facilities.
Being retired and living on a fixed income, cost increases for anything is a pain. I think for many 'Boomers', $80 will be be a tough pill to swallow when added to the increased costs of everything else.
I graduated HS at 17, as well, and went into the Air Force about a month before my 18th birthday. Sometimes it seems an age ago--other times it seems like yesterday!

I got my pass a few years ago, but I nevertheless sometimes pay the entrance fee anyway. Not always, usually in those parks with which I feel a special closeness, maybe not often enough, but I do it sometimes. I feel that I am doing my little part to help the BEST national park system in the world. I have been fortunate to visit National Parks in quite a number of other countries and continents, and, with the possible exception of the Canadian system, no other system in the world comes even close to protecting natural and historic heritage as strongly, while allowing reasonably unrestricted access, as our NPS. That is how much we stand to lose as a result of our current lack of responsible government. Even $80 is a steal, in my view.
