Interesting Behavior
My wife and I are taking some R&R in Costa Rica and while I was sitting out on the patio of our Condo we were visited by a Black Vulture that decided to use the pool to grab a quick drink. Shortly after arriving the first guy was joined by a second, and I thought an altercation was imminent. I was floored by the behavior I saw between the two. The first 4 shots are of the first guy drinking, followed by the a set of four showing the interaction of the pair.

Thanks for your patience in reading through this narrative. I hope you enjoy the images.

Best,

Chuck

I wonder if a pair or young with parent. Notice the one on the left, it's neck skin is more pronounced than the right.

Interesting.

Very cool, Chuck.  I've heard that the mated pairs can be quite affectionate.  An excellent series.

Thanks,

Very interesting series, Chuck. I've seen BLVU drinking from swimming pools in the dry season in Costa Rica, too. BNA says they are highly social, and that relate birds – not just mated pairs and parent-offspring – will engage in allopreening and bill storking.

Black vultures are very social creatures, at least here in Florida.  I've seen 50-75 of them in a single tree at sunset many times over the years, especially when canoeing.  Nice images BTW.
