I've been getting a lot of comments like "the large version is much better..better saturation..." etc.
Why does this happen?
Could someone plz go thru their workflow in posting a small and large version of (preferably) a colourful landscape?
I must be screwing something up, but I do the same thing with the bird shots.
For what it is worth, the landscapes are usually the Nikon 12-24, and the birds are usually the 500mm. or occasionally the 300mm.

This is probably an issue with the embedded color profile. I've noticed before that you sometimes leave your image with an Adobe RGB profile embedsded, rather than the safer sRGB profile. Make sure you convert any file to sRGB and embed the profile before you upload it.

Richard is right that it is mostly likely a color space problem. His suggestion is right on the money. On top of that do NOT only upload the larger version and let the NPN software generate the smaller version. It does NOT honor the color space and the results are unpredictable. I've raised this issue for the past couple of years with no resolution. I don't know what the software behind the scenes is doing so I don't know how complex it is to resolve it, but I do know that the results are not consistent.
The only reliable, consistent method is to generate the larger and smaller versions on your own with the sRGB color space embedded in the images.
Richard and Keith make excellent points, Sandy. My workflow is basically the same.
Create the large and small versions of the image
Embed (Convert Profile to) sRGB color space in both images
Save both images for the Web
Upload to NPN.
If you upload only the large version and let NPN create the small one, not only is the color space profile stripped, the compression of the jpg can affect color, tonality, and sharpness, too. That is why it is important to create and then upload both the large and small versions.
Keith: I agree this needs to be fixed. It would certainly be easier to create just a single large image and have NPN's software create the small version the without losses.
