Rich Ennis and I went through Franconia on our way to New Harbor, ME for the Memorial Day weekend and took the Flume Hike. I found this lovely painted trillium on the trailside and thought of Jim Deasy. There were so many of them along that trail. I was amazed! I have never seen so many (or so many kids on a field trip)! The weather was great the whole weekend. More pics to come!
Nice clean flower with only one mark onthe lower left petal. This guy must have blossumed after the end of all the big rains. Nice comp and veyr sharp. What was your F-stop on this, about F 11-F16? The tips of the petal have a really nice ruffle to them. I really like thet!!
Jim,
I was using my Sigma 105 Macro and I shot this at 1/60s at f/5.6. Yes, I did use my tripod this time! I was a bit annoyed by that little mark on the petal, but with all the kids running along the trails, I was happy to find this one nearly perfect! I didn't want to step too far off the trail, since there were signs everywhere saying not to. I think most of them had opened up after the rain. They were pretty fresh looking. The elevation may have had something to do with their later bloom, thus saving them from the rain beating. There were a lot of other nice flowers too. I haven't processed one yet that I don't know the name of. It was a really tiny white one. I will post it. Maybe someone else knows what it is. I didn't find it in my flower books. It isn't often I find a flower I don't know! It sure was a great weekend! Nice to see so much sun after all that rain!
