Intro and ???

Hello, all you very talented photographers,
I became a full member yesterday, after a free month a certain angel amongst you. NPN isn't just any old website, it has heart and cares. You can't say that about much these days. You have all been kind, professional and your advice, while personal, is also expertly presented!  You won me over, and I've told all my camera buddies as well as the South Shore Camera Club in Quincy, MA, where I've been an active member since 2010. The white peacock in my gallery won 2010-11 Digital Nature Image Of The Year in my club...one of the oldest and largest clubs in the Northeast.
Anyhoo, it's a pleasure to be among such inspiring talent, and I hope to glean  from your comments what I need to make me a much better nature photographer. I'm still learning. It's hard...my new camera has more settings on it than a beach has sand crystals!  I'm a hands-on learner; reading a manual and applying that content is useless, I won't retain the material. I am trying to use You tube videos, but haven't found the right one in the right language yet!!
I have much to learn. Digital photography seems to have an almost infinite learning curve, as the technology changes daily. ,
I love nature and prefer to be surrounded by it, than by people. The ocean, the mountains, local parks....just let me hang a bird feeder near my window, wherever that may be, and I can get lost watching the winged sweethearts do their thing.  Nature amazes and amuses me constantly!  We can learn so much from watching animals...they must work together to survive, or be able to outwit your prospective dinner.
I owe my love of and respect for nature to my Dad. He taught me how to garden; he taught me how to "whisper" to animals before it was a book, or movie, or fad. I have saved a number of critters from certain harm and danger by "whispering". Unfortunately, people don't care that the trash they toss can cut duck tongues, break swan wings, pierce raccoon paws, and suffocate any critter. The Brockton Enterprise did a 3 page spread on my efforts to raise awareness in Brockton's DW Field Park, a place I grew up loving, got married in and still love. My marriage didn't last, but my love for this oasis in the city of champions did!  I have since stopped fighting that fight. I still care very much, but it's just a never ending battle with the huge influx of immigrants to this city. I better stop here...if I get up on that soap box, I'm like a runaway train...it means so much to me that I get very emotional. Every creature has a right to live in their natural habitat, unadulterated by humans and their idea of what's best for wildlife. It's truly only in man's best interest. In the final hours...is it really?
Thanks for letting me learn from you. Perhaps someday, someone might learn from me!

Hi Lori and welcome.  I am a recent transplant to western MA and hope to run into you at some point.  Your submissions so far have been very well received and appreciated.  Keep 'em coming.  MA has such a varied landscape... from beaches to mountains and everything in between.    See you on NPN and at the scenic spots in MA.

Welcome, Lori.  That learning curve may be infinite, but you're off to a good start, and it won't take long to get the essentials down.  I strongly suggest that when you post , you include all those setting so people can suggest alternatives that might work better.  Don't be afraid to ask for explanations on comments.  I know when I started a lot of comments didn't make sense because I wasn't familiar with all the terminology.

This is a great place to learn and grow as a photographer.  Glad to have you aboard.
