I just purchased a Asus UX501VW laptop with what appears to have an amazing screen. I have not received it yet but just curious if any one has experience with a 4K screen. It seems to be made for photo and video editing. Here are the machine specs https://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks/ASUS-ZenBook-Pro-UX501VW/. I have an older mini Asus UX21 with a IPS screen and have been very happy with it for traveling. What do you equipment geeks think? Just curious.
Eva, I cannot speak about the exact gear you mention, but do have input on Asus monitors in general. For years on my desk top had a decent Gateway monitor. However, the monthly calibrations always required readjustments. Basically some drifting of sorts on brightness especially. About 9 months ago I bought an Asus monitor and have never had to readjust the monthly calibration. It truly is rock solid and a joy to work with.

Thanks Paul. That is good to know about Asus monitors.
Did you get 8 or 16 GB RAM? if your RAM is 8 GB, that should be fine for PS and LR, but if you use lots of plugins, you might consider upgrading to 16 GB in the future.
The 4k Screen should be nice, but be aware that that high resolution on a small screen may make things difficult to read. You may have to scale text and icon sizes, or if needed, it looks like you can switch to 1920x1080.
One thing that caught my eye is the Ethernet speed. According to the specs it says 10/100 Base T. If you use a wired connection, that is pretty slow. Most Ethernet is gigabit (10/100/1000 Base T) these days, so you might check with Asus to be sure.
Note: You will likely need to update Win 10 to the latest version (1607) that was released on 8/2 if your machine comes with an earlier build. You can get it here. Click the Update Now button.
Once the update is complete (it will take a goodly amount of time) you can disable Cortana if you do not use it.

Thanks for the input Preston especially for the advice on Windows 10. I was wondering if I could disable Cortana since I would not use it.
The machine comes with 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD. I rarely, if ever use a wired connection. Thanks again.

Eva a quick question - I am looking for a new laptop But am hoping for something lighter than my old dell, I couldn't find the weight of the Asus anywhere. Is it pretty light, I like the specs on it!

Hi Hali - Asus website says it is 4.54 lbs with Battery.

Received the new laptop today......... So far, so good. First day experience, I am very happy with this machine. Very much lighter than my Lenovo W701ds monster 17' laptop. Scene size is just slightly smaller than the Lenovo but still a great size. Scene clarity is better / great. A long process of importing software but got the important stuff loaded - CC, PS, LR, most used links.......

Be sure to go into Settings in Windows 10 and turn off stuff you do not need. Take a look at http://www.howtogeek.com/224616/30-ways-windows-10-phones-home/
Have fun with your new laptop!

Happy to hear you like the new laptop. It is also good to know you opted for the larger SSD and 16 GB RAM. That should give very nice performance.
Did you update Win 10 to the 1607 version? If so, how did it go? If you have any questions, please holler.
