I have both Canon and Sigma lenses and a 1.4 telextender of a different make.  I am interested in  purchasing a better 1.4 teleconverter.  Looking for comments on getting the Canon or Sigma 1.4..  I have the Sigma 150-600c and the Canon 300 F-4L.
At this time I seem to be using the Canon 300L more than the Sigma 150-600.

thanks for your comments.

Hi John,
I think you will be using it much more on the Canon 300F4, I use a Canon 1.4x III teleconverter with it regularly and get excellent results, losing the one stop you are wide open at F5.6.  I have a Sigma 150-600 lens but I wouldn't use a teleconverter with it as then you wide open you are at F9, you lose too much light and I doubt if the image quality would be very good when paired with that zoom.  So whatever teleconverter you buy I would consider it a purchase for the 300F4.  I am sure there are Sigma 1.4x tc's that are compatible with Canon lenses but I would probably just go ahead and spend the little bit more and buy the Canon tc if I were you.

John:
I'll echo Nate's recommendation on going with the Canon 1.4x TC.  Using it on the Sigma is probably not a good idea for the issues mentioned above, and you will probably NOT have Autofocus as you'll have an effective aperture of f/9 with a 1.4 TC.

The Canon 2.0 teleconverter works very well with the 300mm, also. Costs you two stops but you get a 600mm.

As long as you have a camera body that will autofocus at f/8.  If you do not, you'll lose AF.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.  I did purchase the Canon 1.4 X III have not had much chance to try it out, but did take a couple shots of a backyard cottontail.  HH, Canon 300 F-4L with the 1.4.  I think I will like it.
