I am considering a Rocky Mountain National Park visit around Feb 20.
I notice there is little activity in the deep winter - seems activity starts in March. Why - Are the roads just closed? Bad light? Or just too damn cold? :)

Yes, Karl, many of the roads are closed. They only keep Bear Lake Road open in winter. Trail Ridge Road opens Memorial Day weekend and Old Fall River Road opens July 4th.

Thanks Bob. It should be an interesting trip; and I'll also try the west side.
Considering another trip in July for wildflowers. I might bother you then about a private guide if I am in better hiking shape.

Yep, interesting trip. The recent weather had the valleys mostly snow-free - even in the Storm Pass parking level; snow seemed soft around Bear Lake. It did make for some interesting panoramics. This being my second time - the first was just a quick Trail Ridge run - I was able to get a better handle on the layout and begin learning some good cutout spots. I might even hike some next time I am there.
