I have tried to downsize a picture to 10k with no luck. My image looks like a pin point and I have cropped more than I would like. I work in Corel and appreciate any and all information to post a picture. Thank you in advance.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, I do not work with Corel, so, I'm not sure what you might be running into there. I assume you're setting the Avatar size to 48x48 pixels and then trying to bring it into the 10k limit. In PS the process is fairly quick and easy. Have you looked on Youtube for help with the process? The only reason I ask is there are several videos with various Corel products there that outline the procedure.
Maybe an NPN member has knowledge of Corel and can help you out too........ good luck....

Hi Elizabeth,
I use PSP and can help you out. I don't know what version you're using and some things have changed in the last couple versions but the basic resize is essentially the same with all of them.
1) Crop your full size image to a square that looks exactly like you want the finished avatar to look.
2) Select Image-Resize
3) In the dialog box, make sure it's set to "By Pixels"
4) In advance settings, make sure that the "Lock Aspect Ratio" is checked
5) Type in the pixel dimension you want in either the width or height box (the other one will match it automatically.
6) Hit OK and you'll have your new tiny avatar.
7) Sharpen the image if you feel it needs it.
8) Save the file as a jpeg with the options set as follows: Chroma Subsampling = YCbCr 2x1 1x1 1x1, Compression Factor = 10 (+/-).
That should get you a file size <10K and it will look like the large cropped version.
Everything goes fine. I'm not sure about Save the file as a jpeg with the options set as follows: Chroma Subsampling = YCbCr 2x1 1x1 1x1, Compression Factor = 10 (+/-).
I Googled it and that didn't help. The smaller I get is 30 K and it looks pretty small.
Thank you for the suggestions.
Just my opinion, but I'd like for all of us to be able to upload larger avatars both in pixel dimensions and file size. For example, I think 60x60 px @ 20 KB would look nice.
Edit: I posted a question about whether or not NPNers would like larger avatars in General Discussion

Hope that works for you!
