Hi folks,
I am frustrated with the performance of this lens in cold( below 10 degrees F) weather. I complained to Canon when it was still in warranty after a trip to Yellowstone. They replaced the IS system and said it was good but also said the lens is only rated to perform down to 32 degrees F. It has been several years to have the ability to test it in cold weather and last week it did exactly the same thing in cold weather. I know there are numerous photographers shooting with this lens in cold climates with no problem. How do I get Canon to take care of this issue? Any ideas on what the problem may be would be greatly appreciated.

Chris, I've shot a ton of photos with the Canon 500mm f4 LS II in temperatures a lot colder than 10°F and haven't noticed the problem you describe. Can you give us some more information? What Stablizer Mode? Does it happen hand held or mounted on a tripod? More notiveable at some settings?

I still have the 500mm vI, so I'm not sure if my experience is relevant, but I haven't experienced this either, including at -40 in Yellowstone. First I've heard of this problem, though I know others who have had focusing issues with the 500 in cold temps. Sounds really frustrating. A couple years ago I did have to send my 1DX back a couple times to take care of a problem Canon initially said they could not replicate, so it may just be a matter of getting a different set of eyes to look at it.
I primarily shoot with the stabilizer in mode I, It occurs handheld and on my gimbal. I will post a brief piece of video when I get to my other computer that shows the vibration. Thanks Jim and Max!
