My well used and well loved Canon 24-105 is having focusing difficulties. I sent it to Canon for a repair estimate and apparently it is going to cost me upward of $475.00 to replace the focusing assembly and fix some other small issues. I've had the lens for over 10 years now, it was my very first Canon lens but maybe it's time for something new. So I'm debating spending the money to fix the lens or replace it with the 24-70 f/2.8. I have a 16-35 and a 70-200 and I shoot a mixture of landscape and wildlife. If anyone has any thoughts about either lens I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

The 24-70 is a stop faster but for the typical uses for these lenses, that's not a huge deal, plus the I/S on the 24-105 can help if needed. 24-70 has a lot of overlap wiht the 16-35 and the little bit more reach with the 24-105 can be very handy. I'd vote for going again with another 24-105. I have the 24-105 and never found it wanting for any landscape opportunity.

Unless you need to speed of the f/2.8 lens, I would go for either the 24-105 or the 24-70 f/4. If you are doing night photography or consistently needing the extra stop from f/4 to f/2.8, I wouldn't spend the money on the 2.8 version. All depends on your needs.

I would either go 24-70 4.0 (unless you need the speed) or the 24-105. I think the 24-70 is a sharper lens, especially in the corners, but the 24-105 is a good walk-around focal range. It is a tradeoff. Since you have the 70-200, I would go with the 24-70, but that is me. Your criteria might be different.

Check out the prices of a LN or LN- 24-105 at KEH.com. We bought one and find it terrific and a big savings. I still think this is a great lens and from what you said a great fit between your other lenses. Ths IS is often times a big benefit.
