Don White just posted here suggestions for shooting in the Leavenworth area. It sounds like the framework of a fall shooting itinerary. Are you interested in a weekend in Leavenworth shooting fall colors?
I haven't spent much time there and don't know the prime locations, but I'm willing to organize the trip. I'll start the itinerary using Don's suggestions and Greg Vaughn's book "Photographing Washington". If you are interested in joining me, or can add suggestions or sample photos, please use this thread to communicate. What is the best time to be there for the fall colors? We will want to avoid October Fest because of the crowds and inflated prices.
We have plenty of time to organize, but I'd prefer to get started early.
I would certainly be interested. I have not personally been to the Leavenworth area so can't offer any advice but I'm sure others can, but I think this could be a fun trip and experience so count me in and let me know if I can help in any way.

Sounds interesting. My fall is still pretty iffy, but I'll keep this on the list as things develop.
Sounds like a good plan, Steve. Being this far in advance, maybe we could get a good turnout. I checked the Leavenworth schedule for the Oktoberfest and it is 10/2-10/3, 10/9-10/10 and 10/16-10/17 (all on Fridays and Saturdays). I'm not sure either when the good fall colors are. The altitude is around 1200 feet, but pretty close to the mountains. Greg Vaughn may have an idea. Are you planning on an overnight type? (It would have to be for me). If it is an overnighter, are you planning on a motel or rough it a little camping? Keep in touch and let's keep this outing rolling!

So sorry, Don. I just completely forgot to respond! Yes I'm still interested in this. I think the decision to motel or camp will depend on the weather firstly, and also if campgrounds are still open at that time of year. I may also be able to go midweek, possibly. Also I see you are in Hillsboro - I'm in Beaverton, so if we can pull this off perhaps a carpool would be in order.

Hi Igor! Welcome to the Pacific Northwest! Bend is one of my favorite places, though I rarely get there these days.
We need to start planning this trip. In most years, the best time to go is mid October (the 2nd and 3rd weeks per Greg Vaughn's great book "Photographing Washington"). This year I suspect fall color will not be as spectacular as some years and will be early. I suggest we plan for the weekend of Saturday the 3rd through Monday the 5th. Of course this is Oktoberfest time so hotels will be expensive and potentially hard to come by.
