Hi,
I'll be out in SD for a seminar in mid-May and will have a couple of days free. Any suggestions for photography within a 2 1/2 hour drive? I'll be staying in Encinitas.

Monika, it was just by chance I saw your post here. I would send Charlie Van Tassel an email. He is in SD and shoots primarily avian, wildlife, and landscape. He may have some ideas in that general area.

During May, both Anza Borrego SP and Joshua Tree NP are great locations for landscape and some macro work too. Both are within the 2.5 hour drive limit you mention.

Thanks, Paul. I just shot an e-mail to Charlie. I was wondering if J Tree & Anza Borrego would be getting pretty hot by mid-May?

Monika, you're welcome. And yes, both areas are desert and by May time frame it starts to heat up at both locations. I shoot every week at J-tree or Santa Rosa Plateau. Even in the summer time. It's been awhile since I was at ABSP.

For me I do everything at sunrise or sunset, so, temps are doable most anytime during those cycles. As a landscape and macro shooter I'm in low light conditions all the time and in the shade or air conditioning thereafter.....

OK, maybe not exactly wild-life or nature, but the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park also provide excellent photographic opportunities. Also, the Pacific Ocean offers many beaches and bluffs. sunrises and sunsets. Hope you have a great trip.

Thanks, Ed. Life has been so busy here in CO, that I think I'm looking forward to some beach time!
