I'm considering investing in a calibration device (again) now that am having some time to process backlog of 5 years of images and make some new. I do own original i1Display which does not work with my iMac which is good 5 years old. I do not want to replace iMac is it is working fine. Any suggestions which will not break the bank and work?
The i1Display is USB 2.0, so assuming you have a port, what you need is the driver software for your OS version.
X-rite, who makes the i1, should have the driver available for download. Since this is a discontinued product, go here and scroll down to "Discontinued Products".
If you're uncertain, you could also contact their tech support. Be sure you have the exact model name and your OS version handy. They can likely tell you if they have a compatible driver.
hi Preston,
There is NO support with the latest OS. http://www.xrite.com/product_overview.aspx?ID=789&Action=support&SoftwareID=923
When I try to install the driver it says - no powerPC applications support. Not much help from Xrite as they say - old product and not supported anymore.

Is your iMac a PowerPC machine?? The Apple specs for 2009 machines all say Intel processors, so I'd guess that there's a problem with the driver installer. Have you tried a general web search for drivers for your OS version and the i1Display?
That's too bad, Prashant. The Datacolor tools should work well for you, but I know your pain.
I have an old Monaco Optix XR (also X-rite) colorimeter that's not supported for Win 7 64 bit. I also have a Microtek scanner in the same boat, but I now use Vuescan which does support it, so at least that's a good thing.
At some point, I'll be forced to upgrade my NEC-Branded X-Rite colorimeter for use with my NEC monitors and NEC SpectraView software. It ain't inexpensive.
I hope you find something that works for you!

This device will work with your iMac and is a very solid calibration device.

Preston - I guess you are talking about the lack of support from xRite? And not the pain with Datacolor products.
X-rite. I haven't used the DataColor products, but the reviews I've read are good. The Color Munki that Keith linked to is also very good.
