Lake Dorothy
Lake Dorothy, Arapaho Pass trail, 7/24/14
@ 16mm - two image focus stack - handheld

Taken on my first outing with the new Canon 16-35mm, f/4.
I love the optical performance and zoom range. Along with the 70-200mm, this is now one of the two lenses that I always carry on a hike.

This was shot during a lunch stop while on a hiking group outing.
So,now a number of people in our group want large prints.
Just wondering if any of you have recommendations before I finalize the print?

See large print.
Note the color saturations are MUCH higher on this site as compared to what I see in Lightroom or Photoshop.
So no need to comment that this is oversaturated.

Looks good to me Bill. I like the blue reflection in the water, giving it another layer of depth. The rocks in the foreground lead the eye very nicely to the horizon.

What do you think of cropping some off the bottom to make it more of a pano & emphasize the length of both the mountains & lake? The rocks make up half or so of the visual mass and I think that the mountains & lake deserve more emphasis

The ridge and foreground look very natural to me on the large version. I was going to comment about the blue saturation in the sky, but see your comment about saturation. You might try a very faint vignette in the lower corners and see if that enhances the curve of the foreground rocks.

Looks good to me Bill! I did notice a very slight angle to the waterline in the distance (middle of image), a little counterclockwise rotation would fix it if it bothered you . :toast:

I like the foreground as it pulls you in... The sky is a bit saturated for me but did see your notation. Quite nice indeed!

Very nice Bill! I really like being able to see the rocks under the water, they really add a lot.

Thanks for all the suggestions:

Monica - I actually wanted to emphasize the foreground rocks, but I will show the others a crop and see if they prefer it for their prints.

Doug - the corners have a slight vignette already, but I'll try adding some more.

Scott - I see the slight shoreline tilt - thought I had already adjusted that !

Great shot! Personally, I like the amount of foreground, since it really pulls me in.

Beautiful comp, love how the foreground rocks grab my eye and yank it towards the lake and mountain backdrop. How is corner sharpness on that lens?

Don, the corner sharpness is superb. The TS-E 17 and 24 have better lab tests, but at f/8 you really have to pixel peep the corners to see the difference - at least with my copies.
