“Single-shot compressed ultrafast photography at one hundred billion frames per second”
That’s pretty fast…..

Clearly that is not fast enough, after all, light has traveled a whopping 3 mm between frames.
Wow!

I have to say that this contains a bit of "classic scientific overstatement", with their claim "Furthermore, akin to traditional photography, CUP is receive-only, and so does not need the specialized active illumination required by other single-shot ultrafast imagers". To me this particular claim makes no sense because you have to have a high-speed pulsed laser and a streak camera. Both of those are extremely expensive and very challenging to use. Without reading the article, I also suspect that they are using "Compressed Imaging" techniques to extrapolate limited data to the extremely high speeds claimed...
Those are my real world photographer comments. Scientifically, it looks like a fascinating and potentially very useful advance in technology.
