interesting behavior

Caught this Pileated Woodpecker yeaterday feeding on hackberry berrys. Interesting to me because it is the first time I had vevr observed it. I had always seen them working on dead trees or tree stumps for insects. Not the best image of a beautiful bird but it was more interested in feeding than posing, and I didn't want to disturb it trying to get a better view.

Like you, I never knew that Woodpeckers ate berries....he/she must have decided it was time for a change of diet.
Good eye to have noticed this behavior...and thanks for sharing this with us, Kendall. I always appreciate learning something new!

That is strange behavior.
