I flew into St George today for a week of business meetings in Utah. Got all squared away at the hotel and headed up to Zion for a couple of hours. I had it fixed in my mind that I'd been to Zion a couple of decades ago but nothing seemed familiar and after consulting a map I realized the family vacation bypassed Zion and went from Vegas to Cedar City then to Bryce. Mostly what I learned is that I need to spend some serious time in this Park. Here are a few of the images I found today.

#2 I am fascinated by the way the mud cracks and rolls up. Lots of interesting comps

#4 Combat photography. The reason I usually try and stay away from the iconic shot

#5 Last one. Another roll in the mud

Bill, I like the more intimate scenes in #3&5. I hope you get to return after business this week.

The mud curls are interesting. Like Doug mentioned, I hope you get out and explore more of the park. There are several different zones; in the next couple weeks the primary Virgin River area should be prime for fall. On the bridge, I usually pass right by - but if get on foot you can walk down river and find a few pedestrian bridges that afford perhaps better comps with less insanity. I was on the east side this weekend shooting Maples and may be back next Saturday morning; drop me an email if you are around.

Some very nice comps, Bill. I'm glad you found a way to lose the crowds!

Bill, I'm glad you finally "discovered" Zion. One of my favorite parks.
I hope you have time to hike into the Virgin Narrows.
BTW that's a sparse crowd on the bridge. Come back at peak color.

Thanks for the kind words. I had a great afternoon in the park. Karl, I'd love to meet you there but I have to be back in Denver Friday night. Bill P, I had no time to do any hiking this trip. Next time. I did, however, manage yesterday afternoon to head up to Bryce for sunset. When the sun goes down the pastels come out to play.
