A few tropical storms came up from the Baja this fall, leading to the Little Colorado river to rise for a few days. Grand Falls is just northeast of Flagstaff and makes for an easy late afternoon trip. I made two such trips at the end of September. The late sun tends to give the muddy water a nice red cast. Grand Falls is just a few feet higher than Niagara, although Grand/Chocolate falls is tiered.

#6 Tried to get the faint northern end of the milky way. Thanks for looking. Any feedback is welcome.

I closeups, especially #3 and #4, are cool. But I really am digging the mood in #1. Having been there, Grand Falls is a tough place to scale. I think you have some great directions here.

Doug, all images are grand but # 1 is hauntingly beautiful and intriguing. What captured me is the dynamic between the gold BG, rock & tree and then the FG water. In # 3 I like the dynamic you captured in texture and the you are right the gold sets it off.

Sandra and Karl, thank you for your comments. Any thoughts on the shadows of #1 regarding making it darker or lightening for more detail?

#1 sets a mood. Changing it may change that. Fine the way it is. Might play with clarity positive or negative - but again, its not a detail shot. IMO.

Why am I so intrigued with #4? The lines are just right in the comp, it's like a rip tide pulling you in. I know that image printed big with an off-white matte and wood frame would look fantastic.

Doug, I agree with Karl and would not change the lighting. More detail would only distract and change the great mood you have set.

Great shots Doug! I just got off a Grand Canyon kayak trip of 16 days and two of my goals was to photograph the Little Colorado junction with the Colorado in its clear, blue phase as well as Havasu in its clear, blue phase. Havasu cooperated nicely, but the LC was stubborn when we floated by on Nov 2. I've only seen it clean once out of 6 tries.

Don, Seeing the canyon from river level must be a treat. I suppose the LCR was still flowing with runoff from the last Baja storm. It looked to have a tiny flow still in Cameron still when I drove over it 2 weekends ago. How far up Havasu did you hike?
