Tuesday night at Wilson Mesa
The above image was taken on Tuesday night from Wilson Mesa. I recently made my first trip to the San Juans for fall colors - what a wonderful area! I have wanted to photograph this area for years and am so happy to have spent a few days in the shadow of this impressive mountain range. This is my favorite image from the three days I visited. The clouds were thick and did not show signs of breaking when we first arrived. Surprisingly, they began to open just as the sun began to set. The glowing aspen trees and colorful clouds made for a perfect sunset!

As you all know - now is a great time to visit this area! I look forward to seeing all of your wonderful photos in the coming weeks.

I am flying to New Zealand tomorrow for a tour around the North Island and will then be staying as a Hut Warden in Abel Tasman National Park until May. As a result, I won't be very active on the forum but every once in a while I'll post some off-topic photos from New Zealand!

Thanks as always for your comments.

Very nice Crystal. I like the atmospherics- what a great opportunity for the dappled light. Comp looks good with the darker band top and bottom. Have fun in NZ!

Great light on the clouds and across the hills. This makes me second guess my decision to stay in Flagstaff for fall. One suggestion may be to warm up the white balance a little to remove some of the blue from the foreground and fence, and give the clouds a warmer touch. Have a great time down south.
