Hi Folks. Business has me traveling to St George,UT the week of October 27 and I'm trying to decide if it's worth flying in on Saturday the 25th for a day of photography around Zion or whatever else there might be in that area. Too early for fall color? Too late? I've never been there in the fall so what's the scoop?

I don't think it is too early--ive been there several years as early as the 28th with colors in full swing. The maples usually go first and often they are past peak by the end of October. Also, you can always gain elevation especially in the northern portion of the park and the color is much earlier there--it's a great departure from the usual Zion spots. Zion is always worth a trip.

I would fly early too. Zion is my favorite any time.

There's also Bryce Canyon, which is a worthwhile visit any day of the year.

Thanks Folks. You've validated my decision. I have a day of meetings in St George followed by a morning of meetings in Panguitch so it should be pretty easy to get a sunset at Bryce on the way back to St George....if the weather cooperates. Thanks again for the info.

Or, skip Zion and visit any number of other very cool locations around St. George. Red Rock Rec. Area, Snow Canyon, Virgin River Gorge...there are many interesting opportunities in that area.

Late Oct is often the perfect time for fall color in Zion, just depends on the year. Definitely take the extra time to get out there!
