Sensor Failure?
Canon 1D Mark III image after sensor malfunction yesterday.
(Best viewed large)
Seven years & 200,000 + clicks under somewhat humid conditions at times.
My first experience with this, I'm assuming the sensor has failed.
Has anyone seen similar before? Could it possibly be anything else?
Anyway, sending it in to Canon, will find out soon enough..

Looking at the large image (necessary), I think you may be right. :frown:

I'm afraid i agree. Sure sorry, but you have gotten a long life and great images out of this camera, so imagine what beauties you
will get with the upcoming new one!

Sorry to see this Howard :frown:

I've had shutter issues, where half the image is way under-exposed, but nothing like this. Fingers crossed that it works out for you

Yikes, I hope it's not too bad a deal here, Howard. Like most of us photo nuts I'm hoping you've got a backup unit of some sort to tie you over. These days anything we collect as a spare or hang on to has a price associated with it no matter what........good luck and keep us updated.

Are you getting the lines on every image, Howard? Hope you saved your old camera.

Good luck.

Sending the body in for repair today, will let y'all know the verdict in a week or so.

I'm still getting a Mark IV to upgrade one day.. Hopefully in the not too distant future

Hi Howard,

That's too bad about your camera. Hopefully, it can be repaired and used as a backup after you get your new camera. Static charge, voltage irregularities, and excessive moisture can lead to electronics failure. 7 years is a respectable lifespan for a dslr that is used outdoors :wavey: ..................Jim

What was the final scoop on the defect?

Service Details: Your product has been examined and it was found that the circuit board was loose, noise appeared in the image.
The circuit board was attached. The functions were confirmed.

Total cost for me was approx $277.00 with shipping both ways..
Not sure how it happened, I've never dropped my camera or otherwise mishandled it in any way

It's a good thing it was a minor problem--pretty easy and reasonably priced fix.

Not sure how it happened, I've never dropped my camera or otherwise mishandled it in any way

It's possible the board was loose from the time it was originally installed and then due to vibrations from use finally got to the point where the signal was degraded.

Glad you got it sorted out, Howard!
