September Theme: Summers End
With the temperature hitting 109f here over the weekend it seems that Arizona has plenty of sunny summer days remaining. Yet, I've seen reports of early snowfall along the Rockies up north where the majority of our members reside. So it might be the right time to look through your summer images and post one of your faves from the summer season. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the cycles down this way, the wildflowers do their blooming early starting in February and are pretty well gone by the time the saguaro cactus blooms in May.
As a starter here's a hummer visiting a fresh saguaro blossom.

Hi Bob, you might recognize where these wildflowers were photographed.

This summer had two primary photographic goals - wildflowers, primarily sunflowers; and the Grand Canyon.

During a mid-August trip to Denver, I did find a couple sunflower fields and shot in the late afterrnoon sun before needing to return the rental car and fly back home. While the session was short, it game me enough to think able approaching that shoot next year.

With three trips, the Grand Canyon was more successful. The first trip in July was more orientation - a dry run with the camping gear and an over night at Locust Point. The second trip was during a storm weekend and allowed me more time to explore the east side; I also met a new photographic friend who also works in my other discipline - motorsports. And finally the big trip with Bob, Doug, Peter, and others over Labor Day weekend.

The image is from the trail that runs along the East Overlook of the Grand Canyon North Rim. It combines both summer pursuits - wildflowers and the Grand Canyon area. I am not sure this shot will make my permanent gallery. I am still working on technique and with the breeze, the areas I set to be razor-sharp moved a bit - or perhaps weighted by the bee that found its way into the frame. Wide Open f/2 at 100mm provides little depth. Still, its a good memory of Summer 2014.
