Dinosaur NM and Petroglyphs
I met up with Jim Talaric in Vernal to explore the McConikie Ranch petroglyphs and then on to Dinosaur NM for more of the same and a drive to Harper's Corner and Echo Park, two of the least traveled photogenic places in NW Colorado---only a few of the campsites were occupied this Labor Day weekend. We had nice morning light looking down on Whirlpool Canyon from Harper's Corner.

In Dinosaur, this lizard petroglyph high on a canyon wall looks to be close to six feet long.

Not the greatest of light, but still an awesome view by hiking up to the rim overlooking Steamboat Rock at Echo Park and the confluence of the Yampa and Green Rivers.

Always happy to see your posts, Rod. Too few seem to photograph NW Colorado. I especially enjoyed your third image; very interesting.

Thanks, Doug. Being on old newspaper guy, I think I look at these posts from a reporting angle and like to let others know what is out there in my neck of the woods. You really have to want to go to Dinosaur---it's 300 miles from Denver to the Canyon Visitor Center and then another 30 or so miles to Harper's Corner or Echo Park.

Really nice place - I have been to Dinosaur National Monument in 2009 but never went to Echo Park.

Nice views shown in #1 and 3. The lizard really is crisp and stands out well against the varnish.
