Monsoon Dunes
My annual trip to shoot the dunes in stormy light. No lightning strikes chasing me off this year, but the wind driven sand and rain was fun...

Hi Stan, I like this set a lot. That pano shot that's on your site is really beautiful. I kinda like the streaks of darker wet sand layered into the dunes, it adds some nice contrast. You find your sunflowers?

Great set, Stan. I really like the posted image and the first pano in the set. Great light and conditions. Wish I lived closer. :toast:

Thanks!
Kane--there were sunflowers, just not the bumper crop ive seen in previous years. If I had more time I would have focused on the bee plants--there were some nice bunches of them on the outskirts of the dunes.

Stan, I like Alien Landing, and Light and Curves (which I might crop off the top 25%). Good group of purple asters too.

Great shots Stan. I think my vote goes to the panorama. Must say you are a brave one to take your equipment out on the dunes. I nearly destroyed one zoom lens and my niece ruined her point and shoot out there. How do you keep the sand out of your lens and camera?

Nice set! The rainbow shot is the standout to me - it's so cool how it's all blue skies under the rainbow, stormy outside. Very unique moment.

Thanks, Jack--unfortunately I had left my CP on for that one, and forgot that it was on so it ended up nearly wiping out the rainbow--it was MUCH more vivid than it appears in the photo. Oh well....shhhh, don't tell!

John--I don't, I just keep going until my equipment breaks, and that gives me an excuse to buy new stuff.

Nice set with some interesting contrasts. Frankly, after standing on the top last June and getting blasted for 30 minutes while waiting for the epic sunset that didn't materialize, I have a renewed appreciation for shooting the dunes. Still finding sand coming out of my camera bag!

D'oh! Perhaps you could try a localized saturation bump just on the rainbow to try to get those colors back?
