Trouble with Slipping Lens Collar?

I use the Olympus ZD50-200 for lots of different things. Not only is it excellent landscape glass, its close focus ability (1.2 meters) makes for an excellent macro. However I have been having lots of trouble keeping the collar from slipping, just seems to loosen up and rotate on its own. I recently used a strip of clear Scotch tape on the collar surface, and now I'm able to tighten it down and it holds its grip.

Man, it's been a long time, but I vaguely remember having a similar problem with my Zuiko 300 lens. That lens had a bit of felt on the inside of the collar and it got compressed. I believe that I added a small washer under the collar locking knob so that I could get it a bit tighter. Your tape sounds like a decent solution also.

I used scotch tape for years on the fiber bushings in the leg joints of my old Gitzo 1325 tripod. A good fix and much cheaper than replacing the bushings.

Bill,

If the collar is easily removable you may be able to replace the felt.

Micro-Tools has a selection of light baffle felt that may work.
