The last of the Joshua Tree pictures: This one is of Arch Rock in the White Tank campground. Time of day was limiting (next year I hope to be there for sunrise, sunset, or night sky. My only bit of creative inspiration was to go vertical instead of landscape.
Thoughts? Always appreciated. No real processing here except a tish of brightening and sharpening. Is it still too dark? Does it have enough interest?
Going portrait was a nice call on this one. All the shapes keep my attention. I think I see a couple of places under the arch where a careful bit of dodging would bring out some small but important details in the structure of the formation. If you're into it, I think this is worth processing some more to show off the variations of color in the rock. Love the texture and all.
@ Tareq: Joshua Tree Natuonal Park is in the southeast desert of California, not in the Pacific NW. California is a whole l-o-n-g vacation unto itself, and well worth it. That's after coming to the PNW, of course!
Thanks, everyone. And yes, I'll do a bit of dodging. I just realized that although I am a PNW person, these images are from CA. It's still okay to post in our regional forum though, right?
Tareq: I have seen lots of night shots of this arch. It's conveniently located IN a campground! White Tank Campground in Joshua Tree National Park.
Here is a redo:
1. Dodging under the arch
2. Hue separation of oranges and yellows to emphasize color differences
3. Slight saturation boost in rocks only
4. Slight crop off the right get rid of a funky triangular bit of background
